Screen had locked, and though my card was still tucked in the reader, which hadn't been moved, an error popped up on the screen when I tried to log back in, saying that the card wasn't inserted properly. With several important deadlines tomorrow, I wandered away from the computer to take a ten minute breather. I then immediately ordered a new spare, which came yesterday. I did notice that when I shook this new reader gently, there was no rattling noise. After searching my house for a while and panicking, I found the spare reader and it worked. Luckily, I had ordered a spare a while back, in case something like this were to happen. I hadn't moved it around much or dropped it recently- but for whatever reason, once I left my computer for a little while and it locked, the reader became nonfunctional and I couldn't get back in. When I shook the reader a little bit, something inside made a rattling noise. I reinserted it a bunch of times and it still didn't work. It lasted for six months before suddenly going kaput four days ago- lit up fine with card inside, but error on screen said it wasn't inserted correctly. Bought it several months back when my laptop's internal reader broke. This reader works for my government CAC card.
